But do you really want the review of the Casio A168 before buying it? All right, I'll do it for you!
Since we are talking about the Casio A168, let's immediately talk about the negative notes of this watch, and therefore why I do not recommend this watch. So, I personally do not know any reason to not buy this watch, and I do not even care to know if there is any reason. End of story. And here we come, Casio lovers, maniacs of digital watches and watches in general. Its full name in the Casio registry is Casio A168WA-1YES, but for us it is "the A 168" ;). And let's get to our review, which in this case will not be a technical review, because there is very little to say about this simple digital watch, but will be the sharing of my experience as a collector of Casio watches and watches in general. The Casio A168 was the first Casio watch I bought in 2017, the first in my strictly vintage collection. In total, I have ten watches from the Casio collection and Casio vintage series. Of course I have many other Casio watches, but as regards the models that most reminded me of my childhood and adolescence, i.e. the wonderful 80s and 90s, I have selected ten pieces.

The fact. In 2017 I return to Italy after many years spent abroad. I was about 37 years old and hadn't used watches for a while. For me they were totally useless. The last watch I had used for about 12 years was a Manta by Breil, thrown in the garbage after the movement had completely worn off (the hands flickered and the minute hand fell off when it reached nine o'clock). After all, it had made a good impression and its work for a decade. As mentioned, I considered watches useless, because for work and study reasons I was always in front of a computer, with two smartphones, an alarm clock, a wall clock, an electronic agenda. Then, depending on the city where I was for work, I was either in the car or on the subway, in streets full of digital clocks placed on the billboards of bus stops or shops. In short, it was impossible not to know the time and above all I felt like sometimes not knowing it.

And let's return to 2017, more precisely to December of that year. After Christmas I had to leave again, and so I decided to spend the Christmas period in my hometown. Many of you with the same lifestyle know very well that when you return to your own city after many years you feel lost and a stranger. And so, with the city all festively decorated, and I full of so much melancholy mixed with levity and happiness, all typical feelings of the Christmas period, with a slow peace I begin to wander around the shop windows of a large shopping centre. I wanted to give myself a little gift, but honestly I didn't know what to buy. I didn't lack anything, from clothes to perfumes, up to electronic products, I was completely full. Indeed, even too many things, since every time I packed my bags to leave I didn't know what to leave at home and what to take with me on the trip.
And then music like Experience by Ludovico Einaudi, J'y Suis Jamais Alle by Yann Tiersen begin to echo in my brain. Without the help of a Delorean equipped with a flow channel, I see and relive all the most carefree moments of my childhood and adolescence. Luna Park and rides, entire days spent on a scooter or in front of a Commodore 64. Gaming rooms, going out with friends to buy the diary for the new school year. The bossa nova button pressed ad nauseam on my cousin's Casio keyboard. But above all, the Casio A168 reminds me more than anything of my first true love in terms of watches and whose photo I attach.
Come on, old boomers like me, you can dry the tears of joy that I see flooding your faces. Here are my conclusions on the Casio A168, completely free to find it horrible and not even consider it for a second as a possible purchase for you. But for us elderly people it is a must, a flag, a symbol of carefreeness and freedom. Small and final clarification about this Casio series which concerns younger people. The Casio in question is however part of the A168W series, and of which various colors have recently been added by Casio.
